New Law's Surrounding Exiting The Schengen Area in Palma.

New Passport Stamping Policy for Yacht Crew in Palma from 2024

Starting from January 1st, 2024, yacht crew in Palma presenting only a contract will no longer receive passport stamps from the local police. Instead, they must possess a Seaman's Book, as immigration authorities will decline to stamp the crew on board or out of the country without it. According to a recent official communiqué released by border force police on December 15th, employment letters or contracts will no longer be accepted as proof of seafarer status. Therefore, non-EU arrivals on yachts in Mallorca from January 1st will be subject to standard visa controls, and their permitted days in Schengen will be accounted for.

The stamping in (off) procedure remains unchanged. Crew members disembarking from yachts and entering Spanish territory must have the necessary visa to remain in or travel through the area, as well as the financial means to support themselves during their stay. Proof of accommodation, an invitation letter, or a flight ticket will be required for the duration of their visit.

This new policy is expected to impact many crew members and it is highly recommended that they apply for a Seaman's Book as soon as possible.
